    This cycling adventure will take you from the heart of Maribor through its historical industrial neighborhood over rolling hills covered with vineyards. In the core of the Maribor Wine Road, the Vodole Wine Fountain will greet you along the way. You will experience the gorgeous views and culinary highlights combined with great wine tasting in Styria, on the border between Slovenia and Austria. On th third day you will start from the heart of Maribor then slowly move up along the slopes of Pohorje mountain, tackling some true alpine hairpins with wonderful views down the Drava faltlands.

    After pedallin’ through glamorous landscape you will reach the amazing town of Ptuj –  the oldest Slovenian city. Here the wine production began as early as in Roman times. Exploring the road by the magnificent Drava river you will pass the majestic Hincejeva sekvoja, an 8m diameter and 50m high sequoia tree.

    A perfect experience that will take you through the beautiful landscape and vineyards to the oldest town in Slovenia. It’s time to take advantage of this unique opportunity to discover this part of Slovenia by bike.

    The Route

    Arrival: Non-Cycling Day

    Arrival in Maribor.

    After a long day of traveling, it’s time to check into the hotel. You can enjoy your free time, as there are no guided rides scheduled on the first day.

    We`ll meet at the hotel for a short briefing from Protime team.

    Maribor – Melje – Malečnik – Vodole – Dragučova – Doljnja Počehova – Rošpoh – Gradiška – Zg. Kungota – Gaj – Bresternica – Kamnica – Vinarje - Maribor

    The route will take you from the Heart of Maribor through its historical industrial neighborhood “Melje”, then over rolling hills covered with vineyards just on the outskirts of Maribor and with short descent to the Pesnica valley. Some flat-ish sections and dedicated cycling paths before we tackle the scenic ascent to a picturesque village Gaj nad Mariborom with some wonderful views along the way. Following technical descent back to Drava valley and with a short loop and few “bumpers” heading back to Maribor centre.

    route specifics: Following mostly good, paved roads, although narrow at times. On the descent From Gaj to Bresternica, expect some short gravel sections and asphalt in poor condition. Moderate part of the route on main roads.

    Maribor – Vodole – Doljnja Počehova – Zgornja Kungota – Plač – Svečina – Ratsch – Eckberg – Špičnik – Gradiška – Košaki - Maribor

    Immerse yourself in the heart of vineyard country in Styria, on the border between Slovenia and Austria. Experience the gorgeous views and culinary highlights combined with great wine tasting. Rolling hills and roads with little or no traffic are your ticket to pure road cycling delight.

    route specifics: Following good paved roads, mostly with little or very little traffic on side roads. Only small part of the route on main roads.

    Maribor – Razvanje – Hoče – Zg. Hoče – Slivniško Pohorje – Areh – Bellevue – Zg. Hoče – Spodnje Hoče – Razvanje - Maribor

    This hidden cycling gem will bring you some altitude gain. Starting from the heart of Maribor then slowly moving up along the slopes of Pohorje mountain, tackling some true alpine hairpins with wonderful views down the Drava faltlands. Until reaching the top at Areh ski resort at 1.250+ above sea level, where you will enjoy the majestic spruce forest. On the way down you will make a detour and visit Pohorje Bellveue at the cablecar top station, reaching the slopes of Maribor ski resort. Needless to say, Maribor will be at your fingertips.

    route specifics: Following good paved roads, some on the cycling paths. Only small part of the route on main roads. During weekend, there is possibility of increased traffic along and up the Pohorje road.

    Maribor Zrkovci – Zg. Duplek – Zimica – Zg. Korena – Selce – dolina Rogoznice – Janežovci – Drstelja – Placar – Mestni vrh – Ptuj center  - Ptuj – Orešje – Hincejeva sekvoja – “Rdeča Kapica”– Grajena – Vurberk – Dvorjane – Spodnji Duplek – Metava – Nebova – Celestrina – Malečnik - Zrkovci

    We will start just outside of Maribor by the Drava river and continue over the rolling hills of Duplek and Korena, enjoying beautiful views of Maribor, Drava valley and Dravsko polje flatlands. After some nice descents, we will make a short climb to hills overseeing the oldest Slovenian city of Ptuj, where wine production began as early as in Roman times. We will return just by the magnificent Drava river and pass the majestic Hincejeva sekvoja, an 8m diameter and 50m high sequoia tree. After another few ups and downs, we will pass Vurberk Castle, where some spectacular views can be found, but beware, there is a 20% 500m climb up to the castle. Following enjoyable descent from castle, we will return to our starting point

    Maribor Zrkovci – Zg. Duplek – Zimica – Zg. Korena – Selce – dolina Rogoznice – Janežovci – Drstelja – Placar – Mestni vrh – Ptuj center - Ptuj – Orešje – Hincejeva sekvoja – “Rdeča Kapica”– Grajena – Vurberk – Dvorjane – Spodnji Duplek – Metava – Nebova – Celestrina – Malečnik - Zrkovci

    Well suited for those riding regularly, who have stamina and a high level of fitness. Also good descending skills are necessary. Tours contain challenging days and higher mileage with longer climbs, many with serious ascents and technical descents.
